Why Choose A Certified Trainer?
Functional anatomy is defined as how our body moves in order to accomplish daily activities of living; biomechanics refers to how physics relates to sport, motion, resistance and momentum. Motor behavior is how our brain translates messages into physical skills such as lifting weights, running, balancing.
Basic Requirements
In order to be considered as a trainer with Lori Michiel Fitness, the following requirements must be completed:
- They must be at least 18 years of age.
- They are required to submit annual or semi-annual Certified Education Units (CEU’s), proof of insurance, and proof of training in CPR and AED.
- They must have at least two years’ experience as a fitness trainer or group exercise instructor or both.
- They must submit at least two references.
If the trainer does not have formal education in this area, they must possess a fitness certification from a reputable fitness agency, such as NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), ACE (American Council on Exercise) or ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine). These organizations are accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), which is the benchmark for certification programs.
“In nursing, we are trained to anticipate any potential occurrences and I am trying to think in advance for her well-being.”

Beyond the Basics
Quality instructors should be familiar with and understand the basic guidelines of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Heart Association (AHA) for healthy older adults and frail seniors. They know how to properly instruct a new client with past medical conditions, risk factors, neuromuscular or muscular skeletal imbalances, etc. They are prepared to advise and train a client who has decreased cardio endurance, balance, flexibility, mobility, etc.

Lori and her team provide personal training for my elderly mother who has Alzheimer's and dementia, as part of her overall care. They customized a program addressing her needs, including balance and mobility. She really likes her two trainers and looks forward to her sessions. I highly recommend Lori Michiel Fitness!

Customer care is of the utmost concern to her. She is very knowledgeable about personal training and the workings of the functional human body from a bio-mechanical point of view. She is compassionate about all her clients as they all get her personal touch.
I would feel most comfortable recommending her to anyone that is in need of her services.
Respectfully,
Samuel Strain II NASM/CES

After my mom’s strokes, we knew we needed to help her become active and improve her balance. She didn’t have a good habit of any exercise and none of the local senior classes were appropriate for her.
I’m so glad we called Lori Michiel Fitness. Lori came to the house, met with my mom, listened to her needs, took a careful medical history and matched her with a trainer. He is a wonderful trainer who comes to the house three times a week to help support mom’s recovery. The trainer really understands senior fitness. He gives the whole family peace of mind that we are doing what we can to prevent another fall and keep mom active. Lori checks in with us regularly to make sure the therapy continues to be appropriate for mom. We’re very grateful to her.
